2012 kicked off with my first Ultra. I am so hooked here is a bunch of stories from the trails. Sunday, December 25, 2016. Devil Dog Ultras 100 miler. 41 finishers out of 109 starters. We had freezing rain just before the start and into the beginning of the race which covered the dirt roads, single tracks, bridges with a sheet of ice. There was no cut off times till mile 81 but I knew I was on 32hr pace for the first 2 laps, so I knew I had no time to waste and keep the pace steady.

Monday, December 12, 2016. The first section passed quickly, as the start of a race always does. Weird Normally, I would have panicked that I had gone out too fast but I had been particularly cautious for this race. My first 100k, I definitely didn. Saturday, December 17, 2016. Hellgate 100k 2016 - Cold enough to freeze. For the past four years, my son, Nathan has been my crew. Four years ago, he had help from my wife, Martha, but the last three years, he was the crew for me at this all important, special race the second Saturday in December. This year marks another transition for my crew at this race as my daughter, Amy inherited the crew responsibilities. She is being assisted by her boyfriend, Ben. This year it is cold.
