The first ferry crossing here was built by a farmer in 1951 and the family operated it until the government took it over in 1977. The road heading into the valley suffered a slide at one point. The detour is just to the side. This is not a cable ferry. The ferry is manoeuvred by a tugboat. The tug and barge were built in 1962.
