During the refurbishment of the Castle in 2000 several of the old galleries were dismantled ready for reinterpretation and redisplay. The Egyptian gallery was one of those affected. The new Egyptian gallery, just off the Rotunda balcony, was finished in 2001. The gallery has been designed to resemble a tomb, with themed displays. The photographs here show the female mummy being carefully unwrapped in the new gallery ready for redisplay.
