Inter-institutional society for the discussion of early-modern literature in an informal setting. Established in September 2006, this society meets fortnightly to discuss literature from the period under themes relevant to the research interests of its members. The name is perhaps not entirely accurate as there are a number of medieval specialists in our ranks and we discuss literature across the perceived divide.
UCLA boasts a distinguished faculty in Early Modern Studies, with particular strengths in the fields of History, Political Science, Musicology, Art History, English, French, Italian, and Spanish, as well as in interdisciplinary approaches including ecocriticism, the study of material culture, and transnational, postcolonial, and cultural studies, to name but a few. With strong support from the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
