Tuesday, 16 January 2007. IdahoWashington to the Pacific Ocean. We only spent 1 day and travelled 35 miles in Idaho. We were just on the northern tip of Idaho, a lovely area of mountains, pine forests, and lakes. It is logging country. We also did some time travel and moved into Pacific time. There were a lot of these nests alongside Lake Pend Oreille and there was at least one chick in most of them. We spent 9 days and travelled 328 miles in Washington. A very cold start but! The first sight of the sea .

Cycle tour Colorado

We were in Colorado for 11 days and rode 448 miles. As we topped Current Creek Pass we saw the jagged granite peaks of the Rockies looming before us, and our excitement was building. Wide basins lead across a high plateau .

Cycle tour Kansas

We spent 12 days and travelled 566 miles in Kansas. We were really looking forward to some flat riding; Kansas was the flattest state we would travel through. It was June and the days were getting very hot, we were getting on the road early so as to miss the worst of the afternoon heat, which was becoming a real problem. We were sweating so much that our clothes were stiff and white by the end of the days ride. The roads were getting busy again with weird and wonderful oversize.

Cycle tour Missouri

We spent 8 days and travelled 343 miles in Missouri. The days were warming up now; summer is not far away, so we got on the road early hoping to miss the worst of the heat. We had a short off route trip to visit Elephant Rock State Park. A curious geological formation where billion year old granite rocks stand end to end like a line of circus elephants. The Ozarks were not the highest mountains we would tackle but they were the hardest because of the short steep climbs, we were co.

Cycle tour Montana

We spent 18 days and travelled 687 miles in Montana. This was a day of lakes; we rode alongside the beautiful Hebgen Lake. We had the feast for two and took half of it back with us to put on ice for the next day.

Cycle tour Wyoming

We spent 14 days and travelled 654 miles in Wyoming. Moving on the scenery improved as we headed through Red Rock country to Wind River Indian Reservation. At Fort Washakie we took the opportunity to do some window shopping. I really wanted to buy some of the beautiful Indian arts and crafts. As we peddled our way through the Wind River Valley we emerged into a region of layered red cliffs and snow capped mountains.

Cycle tour Illinois

We spent 4 days and cycled 161 miles in Illinois. We had to cross the Ohio River to get from Kentucky to Illinois so we hopped onto the ferry and arrived at Cave in the Rocks. Which has had a very checked past. Originally inhabited by Native Americans, it was taken over to provide a haven for Pirates and counterfeiters, but now its home to hundreds of house martins. In Carbondale we met Barry and K.

Cycle tour Kentucky

We spent 14 days in Kentucky, and rode 496 miles. That first night we stayed in a hostel in a college campus. We had a very good meal in the canteen for just a few dollars. We also met up with some other cyclists who were on the same route as us. Meals were becoming a real art now, we could find fresh food easily and Jeff was turning out some real gourmet dishes, even on the night the heavens opened. I felt a little stab of guilt, sitting in the tent nice and dry waiting fo.

Cycle tour Virginia

We spent 13 days and travelled 731miles in Virginia. We left the Victory Monument in Yorktown on Thursday 20th April. Taking a side trip to Williamsburg, the locals were surprised to see the Union Jack once again flying in their streets. It was an interesting sight, with horse and carts in the streets, and the town folk dressed in the costume of times passed. Cycling through rural Virginia past huge farms, racing stables, beautiful houses and lush rich farm land.

Remembering Life

Today is decidedly a good day. Seriously, if cooking makes me so happy, why do I even bother doing anything else? Someday I will set up my own coffeeshop with simple home-made treats like the abovementioned. Now that my weekend is finally almost ending, I better get cracking on work. Oh, I also sprained my ankle this weekend.
