catbird journal

Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Yertle the turtle came wandering across the road. Some nice people stopped, rather than run it over, and put it on the other side of the road, which happend to be our front yard. I think it was a painted turtle. It was also, literally, painted, because it had the letters PBR painted on its shell in pink nailpolish. What does that stand for anyway, Pabst Blue Ribbon? The next day we brought it to a nearby lake and let it go. Posted by Kate at 655 PM. Links to this post.

Under an Eastern Sky

Monday, 9 July 2007. Snowball, Buttercup and Snoozer. The white-legged hen lady, practical in shorts, pulled on her cigarette and smiled. Four long teeth, whiter than the others and looking like they had had something artificial done to them gleamed across at me. Three large turkeys gobbled noisily behind her. I had never seen a crested Poland. Friday, 29 June 2007. One Bite of the Pear.
