Konon di Jepang dulu pernah ada tradisi membuang orang yang sudah tua ke hutan. Mereka yang dibuang adalah orang tua yang sudah tidak berdaya sehingga tidak memberatkan kehidupan anak-anaknya. Sesampai di dalam hutan yang sangat lebat, si anak menurunkan Ibu tersebut dan mengucapkan kata perpisahan sambil berusaha menahan sedih karena ternyata dia tidak menyangka tega melakukan perbuatanini terhadap ibunya.
