Tuntutuliak is located on the Kinak River, which basically is part of the Kuskokwim River and the Kuskokwim Delta. Tunt as the locals call it is located a short boat ride away from the ocean. The town is connected by boardwalks because of its wetland tundra. Everything in the picture above that looks like roads are wooden boardwalks.
My travels from the lower 48 through Canada and into Alaska. Saturday, June 9, 2007. Heading out to rural Alaska. Tomorrow I hop a bush plane to Stebbins located on St. Michael island in Norton Sound. I will spend two weeks in each village before returning home August 17th. My rural communties I will be working in are Stebbins, Hughes, Beaver, and Tuntutuliak, and Chistochina.
