Os espanhóis ainda fizeram outra incursão à Amazônia, similar à de Orellana. Pedro de Ursua, vindo do Peru, também navegou o Amazonas, sendo assassinado a meio caminho. Como resultado dessa jornada os espanhóis decidiram, cientes das dificuldades de conquistar tão vasto espaço, adiar a tarefa de colonizá-lo.
