Some believe the coax is a major part of the radiating system. Having never tried this sort of antenna I am unable to comment.

A bridge between two worlds. My best Travel-Loop crafted by John PD7MAA. In former times I had severe antenna restrictions so I bought a heavy Loop and it worked. But when I managed to put some wires in the garden and the signals were about 1-3 S-units above, I switched. Beside that I was enjoyed by constantly re-tuning the antenna.
Operating from countries outside the US can be a lot of fun. I just completed another another. Licensing for the Cayman Islands is relatively easy if you hold a US FCC amateur radio license. Would I be allowed to put up an antenna in camp? Would I have to find a remote location somewhere else? How long would my batteries last? So my plan was to try a Buddipole vertical first.
