Wednesday, October 28, 2009. This site is dedicated to the History of Operation Crown - Airfield in Thailand. Ultimately it is about 59 Field Squadron, but to give a clear understanding, I will need to incorparate the other Units on the Operation. There will be seperate sections, under each year, to record the story of Operation Crown. Please leave your comments about the history, but most of all, leave your stories, so I can incorporate them in the overall story.
Thursday, November 12, 2009. With Christmas and New Year behind, it was back to work, a dead-line had to be met, the Official Opening of the Airfield, in June. Life settled back into routines, with various Sports being held for relaxation, such as Football and Rugby played on a hard baked Bullock field in 30c. For the dedicated, there was a 9 hole Golf Course of sorts, only for the hardy. Plant Park Road to the Airfield. This was a New Y.

Wednesday, November 11, 2009. In 1966, under command of Colonel Hugh Browne CRE, 34 Squadron started to lay a concrete base to the Airfield, along with 11 Squadron, who were called back to help. This involved stripping back the Tarmac, repairing the Laterite base and laying 8 of high quality concrete. May 1966 - December 1966. 59 Squadron took over from 11 Squadron and the task was completed in December. The whole task consisted of 418 men, plus 150 Thai workers.
